Product Development Manager

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the direction of the Product Development team in various functions:
  • Develop Nutraceutical, Pharmaceutical and Food product formulations that meet specified requirements, in various dosage forms including but not limited to powders, capsules and tablets
  • Produce lab bench samples for testing and customer approval
  • Oversee, co-ordinate troubleshoot and problem solve for production trials of new formulations
  • Conduct technical transfer of new formulations to full scale production
  • Perform assessment of new and alternate RM sources – on paper and in the lab
  • Evaluate customer requirements and prepare pre-formulations using previous experiences, literatures and patents
  • Design strategies to resolve formulation problems and evaluate new innovative solutions and ideas
  • Perform project management functions including but not limited to:
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, ensuring technical feasibility
  • Define staffing requirements & responsibilities, and ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, schedule and costs, following defined methodology
  • Ensure projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within quotation
  • Participate in meeting with account executives and support the sales department through providing technical expertise to PNP customers, assisting in customer’s new project requirements definition for Theoretical Quotation process upon request
  • Responsible for analyzing customer’s requirements to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine proper procedure to smooth processes and functions
  • Assist the Purchasing department to provide technical support to define Raw Material (RM) sourcing requirements for new and alternate RM sourcing projects, and otherwise in initial Theoretical Quotation process upon request
  • Support the Production department to provide technical support relating to the manufacture, troubleshooting and process optimization of PNP-manufactured products upon request
  • Offer technical support as needed by PNP internal departments relating to PNP vendors, including but not limited to raw material suppliers, analytical laboratories and equipment vendors
  • Develop new PNP product formula Bill of Material (BOM) and manufacturing instructions and entry into PNPs ERP system
  • Work with production department to assist in revision and optimization of PNP formulas and manufacturing processes, as needed
  • Make recommendation to senior management regarding training opportunities
  • Manage, coach and lead all Product Development team
  • Occasional travel to trade shows and industry events

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in a science-related field
  • 5 years of progressive Product Development experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or management role
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or nutraceutical industry required
  • Experience in quality control or regulatory in related industry considered an asset

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Trained in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical equipment operation, including but not limited to tablet press, capsule filler, bottling line, preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent math skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments of the organization and diverse external stakeholders
  • Ability to problem solve and facilitate resolution to open issues
  • Highly organized and able to handle various projects at the same time
  • Must handle sensitive confidential information discreetly
  • Able to lift a minimum of 25kg
